Templates make every generated page match the visual style you want. Banana Slides supports two modes: single template (one style for the whole deck) and multi template (each page can differ).

The two modes

Underlying data semantics: regardless of mode, every page records its own template. Single-template mode simply means “all pages currently happen to use the same template” — it is a UI hint, not a separate data shape. That’s why you can switch back and forth at any time without losing structure.

Single template: pick once at creation

When creating a project on the home page, choose Single template and select or upload one template in the template area. After creation, that template is applied to every page automatically and you go straight to the outline editor — no extra configuration needed.

Multi template: the project template library

After creating a project with Multi template, you first edit the outline and descriptions; clicking Next after the descriptions step opens the Template Setup page (also reachable any time afterward from the Template Setup entry at the top of the preview page). This is where you manage the project’s template library:

Upload templates

  • Upload template: add a single image directly to the library
  • Upload PDF: upload a multi-page PDF (e.g. a brand book or style deck); the system automatically splits it page by page into template images and adds each to the library

AI template analysis

After each template is uploaded, the AI automatically analyzes its visual characteristics (color palette, layout, text regions, image regions, etc.) for use in auto-matching.
  • Analysis status is shown while in progress; once complete you can edit the analysis and add a template label on the card
  • If a template fails analysis, it can still be selected manually for generation — it just won’t enter the auto-match candidate pool; you can re-run analysis

One-click auto-match

Click Auto-match and the AI considers each page’s title and description together with every template’s style in the library, then recommends the best-fit template for each page along with a reason and confidence score. You can then review page by page:
  • Matched pages show the recommendation source and reason
  • Pages the AI can’t decide stay “Unconfirmed” for you to assign manually

Per-page binding

On each page card you can manually select a template at any time to override the auto-match result, or assign a template to an “Unconfirmed” page. Each page also supports its own text template (describing that page’s style in words).

Switching modes

You can switch between the two modes in both directions at any stage, and already-generated images are never wiped by the switch. Multi → single: click Switch to single. Because all pages must converge on one template, a dialog asks you to pick one from the existing library (or upload a new one) as the unifying template; once confirmed, every page references it.
Switching to single overwrites each page’s original template binding with the chosen one. Already-generated images are kept, but regenerating a page will use the new unifying template.
Single → multi: click Switch to multi; the project enters multi-template mode and the library unlocks. Every page first inherits the currently selected template, after which you can adjust them page by page.

Effect of deleting a template

Deleting a template from the library resets every page that referenced it to “Unconfirmed”; those pages need a new template before they can generate with one. A confirmation prompt appears before deletion.

FAQ

  • Generation says a template or style description is required: make sure at least one page is bound to a template, or fill in a style description in project settings.
  • Auto-match assigns the same template to several pages: this is expected — the AI judges globally, and similar content may share a template. You can adjust any page manually.
